ITIS Species Search by Common Name

itis/search-common-name

Searches the Integrated Taxonomic Information System (ITIS) for common (vernacular) names that contain a word or phrase, and returns each matching name with its language and the Taxonomic Serial Number (TSN) of the taxon it belongs to. The match is on any part of the name, so a short word returns many names. A search with no match returns a list holding a single null. Data from ITIS, passed through unmodified and served by Omnial; not an official ITIS product.
