OBIS Taxon by Scientific Name: Matching Taxon Records and Classification

obis/taxon-by-name

Returns the OBIS (Ocean Biodiversity Information System) taxon records whose scientific name equals the given name, such as Mola mola or the genus Gadus: the taxon id (the WoRMS AphiaID), rank, status and accepted name, the classification from kingdom to species, habitat flags (marine, brackish, freshwater, terrestrial), the NCBI id and English common names when held. A name can match several records, for example an accepted genus and an unaccepted homonym. An exact name only, not a fuzzy search; a name OBIS does not hold returns an empty result list. Taxon registry only, not occurrence records. Ocean Biodiversity Information System data as served by Eden Engine; not an official OBIS product.
