Plant Name Search (USDA PLANTS)

Searches the USDA PLANTS Database, the United States government reference for the vascular plants, mosses, liverworts, hornworts and lichens of the US and its territories, by common or scientific name. Returns total hits and the first 25: for each the matched name, the plant's symbol, scientific name with author, common name, taxonomic rank and its PLANTS profile link. One plant appears once per matching name, so it can repeat. Use the symbol with plant-profile. The query needs at least 4 characters of letters, digits, space, dot, apostrophe or hyphen; shorter or other text is refused with a validation error. A query with no match returns total 0. Typically 1 to 8 KB. Data from the USDA PLANTS Database. Served by Eden Engine; not an official USDA product.
